I thought I'd give this a shot because I liked the Jurassic Park books... and man am I glad I did. It's NOTHING like Jurassic Park, and yet, just as good if not better. It's a lot more interesting, I'll say that much, and it covers a lot more than just dinosaurs. I actually listened to this on...

I thought I'd give this a shot because I liked the Jurassic Park books... and man am I glad I did. It's NOTHING like Jurassic Park, and yet, just as good if not better. It's a lot more interesting, I'll say that much, and it covers a lot more than just dinosaurs. I actually listened to this on book-on-tape from the library and now I am itching to own a real copy and hope to get it soon.

I read this book several times over the years, the first time while in jr high school. Wonderful story-telling by the author of the Sherlock Holmes series.

What a great fantasy story of a group of explorers who discover an ancient continent populated by dinosaurs and other unique creatures. Excellent characters and a story that moves along smoothly and enjoyable. Well worth a read.

A few guys go and find a land where dinos, indians, and ape men live. Exciting at parts, and other parts will put you to sleep. I overall enjoyed the book. Doyle's Sherlock Holmes books were much more favored by me. This is not a bad read though.

I read this at a young age and was surprised at how different it was from the Holmes stories. Now looking back I see a lot more similarities. I thought this was a classic right down the middle adventure story with romance, danger and an eclectic cast of characters. A fun read that resonates with Doyle's voice (which always made me happy as a kid) while exploring a world beyond that of Holmes and Watson.

Except for the ecessive chauvinism, misguided portrayal of man as the fittingly dominant species, and blatant racism, this book was jolly good fun! As much action, adventure, and intrigue as one could hope for.

Solid pulp adventure by the penfather of Sherlock Holmes. Yet, Conan Doyle's adventure tale is no match for Verne, Wells or Kipling. It is a stakkato of daring feates, wild beasts and savage tales set in a plateau raoming with prehistoric beast. Facing various trials, the party of four, two professors, one gentleman and a journalist, long to prove the existence of the prehistoric animals.

The book is slightly above average. There is bits of humour in it and some nice descriptions of creatures, but the story arc does not really take off, the characters (except for one) are not painted too vividly, and the whole book never builds up much tension, as you pretty much follow the heroes around, but the book does not leave enough mystery to encourage your imagination to anticpiate and wonder

Still, if you are into classic 19th century explorer stuff, this is def. something for you.

Yet, I would recommend either to read the Holmes novels instead, or grab Verne, Wells or Kipling instead.

    H.
