Dickens named “David Copperfield” as his own personal favorite, and although it may not be the very greatest of his novels, it is certainly one of the most beloved. Submerged, rumbling autobiographical elements and a miraculous procession of legendary characters, each more uniquely memorable...

Listen...Dickens' brand of sentimentality isn't my thing, really. Nor is the necessary stupidity of David Copperfield's narration in the first 70% of this book. I understand that this was a serial novel, and that therefore probably David has to just be unable to figure out what's going on around...

I really liked this book. I also love that Dickens tells you how everyone ends up in the end of the story.

I closely identified with some of young David's struggles, but lawd, the. pace. is. so. slow. There's so many details and unnecessary diversions, it's excruciating.

In his most autobiographical novel, Dickens tells the story of David Copperfield from his childhood misfortunes to his adult success as an author. It has all the elements you normally find in a Dickens novel: a few quirky but hilarious characters and social commentary on the plight of the poor in London, among other things.

This was not my favorite Dickens novel. I didn't dislike it, I just didn't enjoy it as much as I have some of his others. At over 900 pages, it's the longest novel every written in the English language (or at least it was at one time; I don't know if this is still true). I think Dickens could have cut out quite a bit to have made it flow a bit faster. Experts generally place it near the top of any list of all-time greatest novels, and it's worth reading for that reason alone, but if you want to experience Dickens at his best, I would recommend Nicholas Nickleby.

I approached David Copperfield as a task, a book that I thought would be important for me to read based on its literary merit. What I found was an excellent story wrote so extraordinarily well that it gave whole new meaning to the word "classic" for me. This book is often assigned in schools as well it should be because being able to understand subtle humor is something that everyone should understand how to do and nobody did it better that Charles Dickens. Not only that but there is great character development. Warning this book is dry and there are spots that are somewhat slow but overall very strong.
