Quentin's quest for his heart's desire begins with an appointment to interview for Princeton, jolts him to a magical college, and ends in a world he never quite though existed. But somehow, none of it makes him as happy as he expected.

Part homage to beloved fantasy series, part college years story, part unhappy gen-Xer-type tale [it feels like the 90s, more than today -- maybe I should say generic Unhappy Youth, though?], this story defies a quick pigeon-holing. Suggest to those who truly have a place in their hearts for Tolkien or C. S. Lewis, and who like, say Chabon or The Rule of Four as adults. Sex is not graphically described, but there's a fair bit, and more than enough swearing and drinking to keep it adult not YA -- but probably many mature high schoolers would like it.
