“Although Meg Cabot is not well known for her deep stuff I found that this book had several levels of depth. We are left at the end of the book really wondering if either Jinx or Tory has magical powers. I like that about the book. I liked the family relationships that are explored and also the struggles of being a little bit different. Tory was a pain in the butt character but I feel like she got what she deserved in the end. ”

Yes | No“New York City is a big change from Iowa for Jean Honeychurch, a minister’s daughter (aka, Jinx.) Fleeing a stalker boyfriend and a history of bad luck, Jean ends up staying with her kind, if distracted, aunt and uncle, their three children and an au pair in a luxurious Upper East Side townhouse. Unfortunately, her cousin Tory doesn’t seem to happy to see Jinx, especially when the hunky next-door-neighbor Zach starts coming over a little more often. Tory has adopted their girls’ shared witch heritage (their great-great grandmother was burned at the stake!) and can’t understand why Jinx isn’t similarly fascinated. What Tory doesn’t know is that Jean’s last foray into magic didn’t work out the way she planned. Now both girls are attending the exclusive Chapman School and Tory is out to make Jean’s life a nightmare. Whose magic is stronger?
Okay, so I’m a Meg Cabot virgin. And after reading this book, I can see why she is so wildly popular. The book is very easy-to-read and quite absorbing. Sort of a guilty pleasure. It’s very trite and predictable; although Tory turns out to be a lot worse than I had expected and doesn’t make a full nice-cousin recovery. There’s really not too much magic in the end and a lot of talk about how true witches are responsible, peaceful, not vindictive, devoted to harmony with the earth, etc. Of course, Jinx is too nice to be real and Zack is too perfect (hot, smart, sincere, rich . . .) Still, a great beach read or high-low choice.

Jean a girl that got called Jinx have a gift from her great-great-great grandmother. The gift is whichcaft. Jean try to use it once and it work too good and it was a trouble. She was scared to use her gift since that day on. Jean got move to stay with her cousin Tory that thinks that she had the gift, but she didn't know that it was not her but Jean that have the gift. They are cousin but they are fighting eachother with their gift. Tory thinks that it was just for fun, but Jean made a mistake with it before so she knew it was not a game. Jinx is a wonderful book. If you want to read it, I will warn you first that if you start reading Jinx you will have a hard time putting ti down.”
