I liked this; good, sexy contemporary romance. I may have to find books by Andersen - she has a good sense of humor.

    November 2008 (c) Gracie C. McKeever

Carly Jacobson is a blond, blue-eyed Vegas showgirl with legs from here to Kalamazoo, and a heart as big as the Grand Canyon. She collects shelter animals and calls them her babies and once they're properly trained, she takes them on visits with her to the children's cancer ward at a neighborhood hospital. But none of this matters a lick to her stern and cold next-door neighor Mr. Wolfgang Jones.

Wolf works with security at the Avenuturata where Carly works, but he's got big plans and none of them include his getting involved with an irresponsible, sloppy and frivolous showgirl. Too bad the friend in his pants didn't get that memo. To make matters worse, Wolf's parents have dropped their grandson, Wolf's sister's only kid, Niklaus on his doorstep while Wolf's father takes yet anothe military job overseas. Wolf knows all-too-well what emotional trials the kid is experiencing, but he's too busy worrying about his own ambitions and trying to stave off the attentions of Carly to see what his nephew needs.

Both Carly and Wolf are running from past demons. Carly's is a social climbing mother who's been married several times for status and not love. So committment is not in Carly's vocabulary. Wolf is running away from a past where he had no say when his parents up and moved and he had to start his life all over again in a new state/country, in a new school making new friends who didn't always consider or treat him as an equal because his father was a lowly supply clerk. Thus, Wolf is driven to be successful at any cost, and if that means sacrificing love and moving on, then so be it. He wants to head up his own security detail and he can't do that at the Aventurata as he's already gone as far as he can professionally go there.

Andersen's writing is smooth and tight and her characters are three-dimensional and engaging. The story is rounded out nicely by endearing and humorous appearances from several characters from the previous book.

Add in a deranged stalker who has set his sights on Carly, and this was a sensual, emotionally charged, suspenseful and exciting romance.

I really enjoyed this and found it a nice follow-up to Andersen's Skintight.

Andersen is still in Las Vegas. The heroine is a Vegas showgirl who rescues abandoned pets and tries to turn them into therapy dogs. She’s got a carpe-diem-let-the-good-times-roll attitude and can’t stand the neighbor who just happens to work as security at the casino where she works, because he’s got a you-must-follow-the-rules attitude and hates her dogs. But of course life works to throw them more closely together, especially when he has to take in his teenaged nephew, and she gets along with the boy better than he does. There’s a mystery element—Andersen started in romantic suspense and still likes it, but it’s light-ish, and the story is more fun than anything. Great read as always.
