Eve Dallas receives a call from a mad man, taunting her with riddles that give clues about the murder he is about to commit. But Eve is too late and finds the body of a man butchered in his own home. Soon another phone call and another body. Both victims grew up in Ireland and both have ties to Eve's husband, Roarke.
Another great Eve Dallas mystery. We learn a lot about Roarke's past and his relationship with Summerset. Love this series! My rating: 5 Stars.”

4.5 Stars
Ohh, this was a good one. This time we have a serial killer and he's out to settle an old score. His acts of Vengeance are hitting close to home for Eve and once again, she and her billionaire husband Roarke are smack in the middle of things.
This book feeds us a lot of background information on Roarke and it's entertaining and enlightening to get to see into his past. We also get to spend some quality time with Summerset, of all people, and we find there's a lot more to him than meets the eye. As the killer is getting closer and closer to home, he's also pointing the blame at someone that Eve doesn't want implicated, and keeping him in the clear is damn hard work.
The murder mystery plot is clever and throws enough curves to keep both the reader and the characters guessing. There's good tension building both while you wonder who's going to die next and while you wonder how the central characters are going to react.
Once again, we get to see some great minor character growth and interaction. Peabody continues to grow into a fantastic sidekick character. Her humor and the way she interacts with Eve is wonderful. You also get to see her steel as well as her heart. There's a new character, a computer guy McNab, that makes a great addition to the growing cast. The little glimpses we see of him and Peabody are fun, and they snipe at each other enough that I figure love must be in the air, ha.
Another great addition to the series.

“Best one of the series so far.”

He's a billionaire, he doesn't need to have surname if he doesn't want to! And even Summerset, the butler and Roarke's old friend from the back streets of Dublin, doesn't escape with all his secrets intact.
We already knew a little bit about Roarke and Summerset's history and the terrible loss that they both shared. I was obviously a fool to think that was the end of that story, and in this one, we get the rest...
It was explosive. It would have been a great book anyway because the mystery element and the poetic clues from the serial killer were all really well executed- I much preferred this plot over the last one- and the pacing was great with the usual mix of action, humour, romance and intrigue. But it was so much more than that. Obviously I'm not going to tell you why it was so much more, you'll have to read it for yourself. But trust me, it was a biggie.
There was, in the background to all that, great further development to the secondary characters as well. It even furthered my already abundant and slightly inappropriate love for Peabody, Eve's aide and growing friend. And I love McNab, the new tech guy! Yet another of Eve's colleagues that worships the very ground Roarke walks upon. But they only love him for his gadgets... only Eve knows the real man. And after this book, she knows a hell of a lot more than she did before!
Five fantastic, futuristic stars”
