“Very good writing. The fight scenes are some of the most vivid since Ender's Game.”

The story itself is a very interesting take on your typical Superhero story.
It paints a very real image of superheros - but not in the same sense that NBC's Heroes does. These are STILL comic book heroes (and villains) - complete with spandex outfits, secret identities, apocalyptic world-control schemes, superhero fortresses, etc.
However, this inter-woven story, told by a new SuperHeroine joining a world-famous SuperTeam and a SuperVillain who calls himself Dr. Impossible, covers not just the "typical" superhero story (Dr. Impossible's scheme to take over the world - and the efforts to find him, figure out his plot, and stop him) - but it also covers the rather human element to the stories of the characters.
Fatale has a hard time feeling accepted into The Champions - as the newest member, and something of an outsider to this famous group. Dr. Impossible reveals, in varied reminiscings, his origin - and more than a few of his motivations - such as why, perhaps, he chose the path of the villain.
A great story ,compelling both for it's plot - as well as it's human element.”
“There exist moments when Grossman really pulls this novel together with the perfect, slightly sarcastic yet ultimately determined tone. Those few, perfect lines are enough to make me wish the book had undergone just one more serious revision, so that the whole book could read flawlessly. Still, it's a fun read, and any doubts I might have had in the first few chapters were completely dissolved with the ending, where the novel really comes together, answering all the lingering questions and resolving all worries. I'll definitely be reading this one again. ”

The book is recorded with dual voice talents and the reader for Dr. Impossible was great. At times I laughed so hard tears came to my eyes.
The story is a look at the "behind the scenes" life of a group of superheros and a super villain. Their lives are not quite as glamourous as the comics show.
I recommend the audio book version. The readers really make this story.”
“Not particularly well written, but funny. Told from 2 perspectives - one side is Dr. Impossible the evil genius who just can't quite get it right enough to take over the world, and on the other side you have the loose band of superheroes as seen through the eyes of Fatale, the newest member of their ranks. Fatale is a cyborg of uncertain origins who gives (perhaps too much) background and history of each of the superheroes, while knowing next to nothing about herself. You're really better off just watching Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. It's a lot funnier and covers the same ground. ”

Yes | No“Although I think this is a great title for a motivational book, it's a novel about superheroes and supervillains. It simultaneously follows Dr. Invincible on his umpteenth attempt to cause havoc to the world and the Champions, a dysfunctional supergroup trying to prevent his conquest. The characters are portrayed in a "real" manner and it's a fun read as the good guys and bad guys try to stay ahead of each other.

“Turns the whole concept of super hero novels upside down- inside out. Loved the theme and enjoyed its pace.
Am wondering why it's still not very famous!”
“I know this book is about superheroes, I've never actually been a fan of the whole "super-hero fighting crime" stuff, but this book as actually okay. I started to read this book because my parents kept pressuring me to, saying it was "a great book" and that I would like it. This story is about two different characters Dr. Impossible a famous super-villain who has tried to take over the world many times, and Fatale, a half cyborg that has recently joined the most powerful super-hero team in the world. It switches back and forth between their two stories. Through out the time I was reading it I had mixed feeling on if I like the book or not. Now I've come to the conclusion that I liked it, but it wasn't one of the greatest books I've ever read.”

There was too much backstory intermingled with the current story for my taste. For example, at the beginning of a chapter the author would spend one paragraph moving the story along and then spend 5 pages on back story. He would then finish the chapter with one more paragraph on the current story. I felt this weighed down the action and slowed down the story. 3 stars out of 5”
