Isn't there a strong note of similarity in characterization and background to a family saga published by yet another Tamilian? And some loose ends . . .waiting to be tied up, by somebody else

Several people have suggested that I read ,One Hundred Years of Solitude. So far I have resisted, I would appreciated any comments on the book.

compelling read. I couldn't help but notice that the story line has many parallels with One Hundred Years of Solitude, by Gabriel Garcia Marquez... does anybody agree?

At least in i's core, I could see a lot of similarity between the two books. For one, both stories trace a few generations of a clan (Buendia / Dorai) established by an obdurate patriarch with more than passing interest in alchemy / science, the isolation of the settlement from political goings on, and in both stories, A son who becomes a revolutionary, the tracing of the life of clan members while the country goes through major political upheaval...

However, the similarity does not lessen the enjoyment of the book in anyway - I thought THOBM was a splendid read.

    Any comments?
