This novel had been recommended to me by someone whose opinion I value very highly, so I decided to stick with it through the somewhat drawn-out, lengthy bits in the beginning of the story, but it paid off! In the end, I enjoyed the story, and it was lovely to watch Joanna's childish infatuation with Colonel Giles mature and, eventually, being met with love from the hero in turn - isn't that what girlish dreams are all about? There is no dark, all-consuming fire in this story, so if you are, like me, more into the passionate material such as McNaught's Whitney, My Love, or Drake's Lie Down In Roses, this may not me entirely for you, but it is still enjoyable, and I will keep it in my collection.

Giles and Joanna were a perfect match. I felt such sympathy for Joanna; all she wanted was to be happy and marry the man she loved and she was devastated when she thought it would not happen.
I gave this book 5 stars because it succeeded in holding my interest throughtout the entire book. The story was great, as was the addition of Alex and Hebe.
