Before I got my MBA, I had a fairly common view of what I read about in the wall street journal. Describing these incredibly huge, complex events, deals, and decisions, I assumed that the people leading them really knew what they were doing.

This book is a witness to one account that describes reality much more accurately.

These big deals and decisions are way too complicated for anyone to truly understand all the benefits and risks. Thus, the leaders aren't doing anything more than making guesses. As it happened in this case, often those guesses are just wrong.
