Inspiring and enlightening. My wife and I listened to this book-on-tape as we crossed much of small-town America that gave Sam Walton his entrepreneurial start. So much of what he says I remember being important when I worked with a large (very large) bank's computer support organization. Concepts like remembering that our primary goal is to serve the customer (still important for me as a school teacher), don't gouge prices, use technology wisely, and most importantly: "if you're big, think small!" I was also interested to learn of his honest evaluation of how long it took him to incorporate non-management employees into corporate profit sharing. However once on board (thanks to his wife), he became a firm believer of this extremely important component for fairness and success. I believe that this book was produced in the '90's. Near the end, Sam Walton was asked if it is possible for someone to duplicate his retail miracle. I immediately thought of companies like Amazon.com and others who have "thought outside the box" (or should I say store?) and have quickly become part of America's free enterprise success story.
