“I read this book after my tour in Iraq. As I read, I found numerous analogies between the counter-insurgency efforts in Iraq and Sarkhan. A couple things that stood out to me were:- Smaller projects like brick factories and canneries see success quicker than large ones - Giving the locals the freedom to operate their own way gives them an interest in the success of a project - Knowing the local language is ideal, but just showing an effort to learn it earns a lot of respect from the localsI'd like to hear what other lessons in this book you've seen work particularly well, or maybe not so well, not necessarily in the War on Terror but maybe in the peace corps, as a missionary, or somewhere else entirely.”
