I think everyone should have to read this book! It is about a fifth grade group of students who are very disorderly and noisy. They decide to have a contest to see whether boys or girls can say the fewest number of words during two days. Girls talk more then boys but the boys play in the classroom and the girls are good in class but they know better not to talk in class and the boys like to be goofy. No Talking by Andrew Clements I read the book NoTalking. It is about a boy named Dave Parker and a girl named Lynsey. They started a contest of "No Talking" for two days! It was boys versus girls. They had a three word rule where you could only say three words in a row if a teacher asked you something. Their principal Mrs. Hiatt does not like it. Music class was hard because they were practicing for a Thanksgiving production so they only sang three word chunks which sounded really choppy. Mrs. Hiatt finally demands they stop the contest, but they don't stop. Mrs. Hiatt gets really mad, but then Dave asks Mrs. Hiatt if she wants to join in. No Talking is about Dave Packer, Lynsey Burgess and the entire 5th grade at Laketon Elementary school. The story begins when Dave tries an experiment of no talking for one entire day.He had read a story about Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi believed if you stop talking for one whole day this would bring older to the mind. His experiment went fine until lunch. Dave could not believe that anyone could talk as much as Lynsey. He finally told her that if she had to shut up for five minutes the whole top of her head would explode. Lynsey didn't like that comment. This started a contest between the boys and the girls. The contest would last 48 hours and the only time they could talk was when an adult asked them a question. They could only answer with 3 words.The team who said the most illegal words would loose. The school days were easy and they really had to think about what they said. Teachers became curious. In the end the boys and girls learned a lot about team work and the teachers learned a lot about their students. Try to find out who won the contest by reading the book!!!
