““Since the Black/White sexual angle doesn't really have the same impact it would have done in Shakespeare's time, or anytime up to the 80's, maybe the best way to retrieve some of the tension would be to see Othello as not just a black man, but a "Moor", that is a Moslem. That would inject a bit of scandal and controversy into a production!””
“This is my favourite play. It is great, the characters are so impressive Othello, Iago and Desdemona..”
“Does anyone else find it hard to buy into the whole "jealousy as the tragic flaw" thing? If it takes that long for the guy to get jealous enough to snap, then I don't call that a tragic flaw. Also, he had to be worked on pretty hard, constant whisperings in his ear, to finally get him to the point to snap. If he was really a terribly jealous person, it wouldn't have taken all the time and hard work to get him to that point. Just my take on it. I doubt anyone agrees with me, but it kind of jumped out at me.”
“The tragic tale of a man who "loved not wisely, but too well." In spite of all the other characters and the plot twists, Shakespeare manages to continue illustrating how he has invented Western Man after the Renaissance. He is acutely perceptive about class, sexual and character type, and equally aware of the darkness in all people's hearts. Definitely the best playwright in spite of his admirers.””
“i love this play. Desdmona's character is so endearing, the final scene breaks your heart especially since there was something so infinitely sweet about othello and desdemona's relationship and the ending is so sad”
“It’s a good romantic Shakespeare’s play but not my favourite. It’s easy to understand when you learn English and it’s better in English than in French”
“one of the most famous plays .. ”
“greatest tragedy..”
“Another great Shakespeare story, although the fact that most of the characters die really but a damper on things.”
