Her characters are real, like they're really alive, and most of them are deeply disturbed and unhappy. It makes the reader want to reach out to them with...” see full review » see other reviews » |
Didn’t Like It“I don't really get it actually. It's very drama, but not over reacting story like we saw on soap opera. |

A lonely girl who had given helped by a man would eventually fall in love with that man. That's all about!”

I am in the camp, however, that went, "Huh?" when I got to the end. The writing style was different - just like others have mentioned. That didn't bother me. I just couldn't quite "get it". I really think that I am missing something.......wish it would have moved me the way that it clearly moved others.”

I thought it was well written and it made me want to try Yoshimoto's other works of fiction, but I couldn't really enjoy this one as it made me so terribly sad.”

Yoshimoto's writing, though simple & concise, brings out the beauty of the expression of language, and leaves one pondering her ingenue with words.
Reading her works are like reading a haiku--there are always so many hidden meanings & symbolism in them, and finding them is only the beginning!”
