One of the most profound reading experiences of my life. In asking questions about fate and purpose, Wilder manages to touch on what makes us essentially human. Heart breaking and beautiful.

I had great expectations going into this novel, partly because it won the Pulitzer in 1928, but I just did not care for it. True, the monk's attempt to decipher God's purpose--why those who fell with the collapse of the bridge were chosen for death (or was it random?)--is an interesting idea for...

Not as confusing as People of the Book, but it wasn't as long and detailed either. An interesting perspective of Wilder's I thought.

A classic "we're all in this together" tale. It gave the ole heartstrings a tug.

I love this story and how Wilder approached it. It is a measuring stick for other novels I read and will read for the rest of my days. I hope to reread it soon.

Interesting character studies and framing of the study. Wilder is his usual omnipotent narrator, and there really is little grounding in the rich Peruvian culture, but this is O.K. The story is all about the characters. Definitely kept my interest throughout my reading, and I even reread good portions of the book.

Even though I disliked this book immensley while reading it (which was a very long time ago), I have probably thought about this book more than any other book I have read.

I was confused most of my time reading this book. I didn't enjoy it very much.
