at first, I felt shortchanged, the story, however finely crafted, seemed to me to be too slight. years later, kawabata's story are still resonating within my mind, I have come to realize that I have more than gotten my money's worth.
not only that, these books are touchstones, designed for returning to for reflection, and solace during our darkest hours.
let not the thrifty reader be turned off by kawabata's brevity, these books are more than a bargain”
“The only problem of this book is that the translator, Mr. Edward G. Seidensticker, uses non-standard go terms. If you don't play go, you won't notice, but if you do, it would be a bit strange.”

The beauty of reality.”

It was at that time that I heard about this novel and I read it eagerly. It was a very readable but didn't grip me as I had hoped based on the reviews of others.”

People who know nothing about the game of Go can enjoy this book, but I would say it will be more wonderful if you have at least seen Go played, or played it yourself. ”
