Jack just thought she was finished with the Cork family. Well after the death of the Gingerbread Man killer, Jack and everyone she loves find themselves knee-deep in his family. And this is one family reunion where everybody dies!

There were so many things that were wrong with Rusty Nail. Once again, the plot was over the top, the villain was ridiculous and the killings excessive to the point of gratuity. I ended up skimming the last 50 pages just to see if my thoughts on who the killer was correct (and it was), but...

Rusty Nail by J. A. Konrath Read by Susie Breck and Dick Hill.
Lt. Jacqueline “Jack” Daniels is back and up to her Armani in murder. Someone is sending Jack snuff videos. The victims are people she knows and they share a common trait – all were involved in one of Jack’s previous cases. With her stalwart partner, Herb, hospitalised and unable to help, Jack follows a trail of death through the Midwest, on a collision course with the smartest and deadliest adversary she has ever known. Serial killers have families, and blood runs thick.

Having read the latest in the Jack Daniels series (see my review for Fuzzy Navel), I’m now working my way backwards. It appears there are four in the series, this being the third which follows whiskey Sour and Bloody Mary. Whatever … this character is great, and the way they’re read, with a male and female narrator makes for a very entertaining listen. The nastiest crim in print since Hannibal Lecter roams these stories though, and both sadistic and masochistic torture is rife, so be aware before you borrow. It’s VERY very confronting.
That aside, jump on board for a rollicking ride with the very entertaining Jack Daniels.
    Deb.

This series takes place in Chicago and much of this book ended up in Northwest Indiana. I enjoyed reading a book with "scenery" from home but the book was a lot more violent than pervious books in the series.

The Gingerbread Man case is not quite over. Lt Jack Daniels manages to put it all together and lives to tell the tale.

There were so many things that were wrong with Rusty Nail. Once again, the plot was over the top, the villain was ridiculous and the killings excessive to the point of gratuity. I ended up skimming the last 50 pages just to see if my thoughts on who the killer was correct (and it was), but I couldn't have cared less about what happened to any of the characters. Some of the humor was funny, but some of it was forced and inappropriate in light of what was going on in the story. This is a series that I will not continue reading.

I listened to all of these books on cd and really enjoyed them all it does get graphic but it is often offset by humor.

This book wasn't really all that great. The series is ok to begin with, but this book didn't really help it out. There were definitely some good parts and I love Jack's humor, but I didn't really care about what she was wearing or how many pairs of shoes she ruined, etc.

It might have been because I listened to it as an audiobook, but this book was way too graphic and unpleasant. I did not enjoy it.
