A little girl begins by giving her pig a party. The party leads to the pig asking for some balloons, which then leads to decorating the house. After decorating, the pig puts on a dress and invites her friends over, who are not home. She goes out to find her friends when she sees a fair and decides to go on the bumper cars. On the bumper cars, she finds her friends, so they go around the fair riding and playing. Eventually the pig and friends make it back home where they have a sleepover and a party.

Classroom Uses:
-make predictions each time something new happens – what will each new thing lead to in the story?
-Students can write their own versions – read a collection of “If you Give a...” books and have students create their own character such as “If you give a Penguin a Pool Party”. This can be an extended process where students take their book through the whole writing process of brainstorming characters and plot ideas with partners. It would be great for planning because a story mimicking this style does require pre-writing!
