The tarot is many things to many people; in Calvino's hands it is a tapestry of stories, somehow containing the sum total of western legendry, like an ur-text of every other story from that hemisphere. More than a literary experiment, tbis book re-affirms the power of storytelling and of the...

Justin M 2 out of 5 stars After I read the first few pages of I thought this would be an enjoyable book to read but I was sorely disappointed then onwards. This is essentially a sbun ch of short stories. The characters in the book are in a mysterious castle for some reason or another and they are all unable to speak. One of them takes out a pack of tarot cards and tells a story with it. Next, another person tells their story with cards and so on. It's an interesting way to tell stories but the stories themselves were boring and I soon lost interest.

More than a literary experiment, tbis book re-affirms the power of storytelling and of the archetypes that make up our shared consciousness.

This book is very clever. It took me to within twenty-five pages or so before the end to "get it," but it was fun to catch on at last. Now I'm seeing what all the fuss is about this writer -- notice there's even a group dedicated to his works here on Shelfari, and that he made the list of 1001 Books (to read before you die). Not everyone's cup of tea, for sure, but incredibly worthwhile in the end.

Didn't even finish. Tales told through tarot cards that stretched the meaning of the card apparently based on the author's tale.

Calvino shows once again why he is a master storyteller. He conjures up a story out of a pack of tarrot cards... just like that:)
