Shardik was a particularly disappointing experience. Watership Down, by Richard Adams, is my favorite novel and was an integral part of my childhood.

There were hopes that Shardik could provide a similar experience. These expectations were shattered. Set in a fantasy world of primitive tribal villages and city states, Adams strays away from animal characters.

Sadly, the people populating the world of Shardik seem less human than their rabbit counterparts. One cares little...
