This is a classic; how can I not give it a lot of stars… I read it while in college, and found it sad and misty (okay, and a little silly, really). The story of the American girl Daisy Miller takes place in Rome, between the glories of history and the misery of 19th-century decay. Of course she does not survive the story.

When I visited Rome for the first time, 3 years after finishing college, I recalled the haunting imagery of this book. But I'm happy to report that I found more...
