Nobody writes the Cold War like le Carre. The plot is masterful, there's not a boring character in the book, and the main character is one of the most compelling men in modern fiction.

Didn’t Like It

I desperately wanted to love this book, and it does have its moments. Those, however, are mostly limited to little quirks of dialogue or scenes particularly well evoked. The rest is just a jumble of characters thrown in medias res into a hopelessly complicated story that never quite fleshes out. The device is interesting, but it causes le Carre to back so obliquely into key parts of the plot that it's like reading half of a conversation. So much time is spent attempting to make sure that...

    Yes we are in the world of Le Carre and it is wonderful. One of the few sets of books I re read again and again, well about once every 18 months anyway. who is your favourite character do tell Connie, Yes repeat ....
