“Vachss could probably be a great writer but, like many crime fiction writers, he seems to have a gimmick which he uses redundantly to crank out short thrillers. His work has an admirable twist. His heroes are actually villains with big hearts who defend abused children.
I buy his books new because he uses 100% of his profits to fund the pro bono work he does as an attorney (his real job) for severely abused children. Although gimmicky and rarely memorable, they're good, short, sometimes thrilling reads.”
