this book's about a autobiography of a French convict who is sentenced to jail...wrongly and unjustly...and then starts an amazing adventure wherein the author's desire to be free takes him to a seemingly unending adventure, jail terms, life sentences, solitary confinement and many escape attempts, that span more than a couple of decades...till finally he escapes for one last time to be FREE again.
      surely a must read

I liked Banco, too, which is the "part two" of the story.

Great book.A true story of man's many attempts to be free and finally gaining freedom.Things I learnt from this book :
    1.Never, Never, Never, give up.
2.Never lose your integrity.I admired papillion's strength of character, honesty and spirit.
3 'We can get used to anything......It is only a matter of self control'.How he manages to maintain his sanity in all those years of silence is amazing.

Papillon is great but Banco wasn't quite in the same league as you really get to know the man as an incorrigible criminal. When he had the choice to go straight, he never did. But I loved both books for their sense of adventure.

i came away with the feeling that the most remarkable point is that he escapes all the time just because he believes sincerely that he dosen't belong in prison!
