I read this for a class in college and I thought it had a lot of valid (and to me totally new) insights into how family is defined throughout the socioeconomic spectrum. Liked it even though I normally think that socioanthropology is so weird. ”

It started off smooth, but then there were too many characters who tried to be the main characters and then it jumped back and forth. it seem to be written with several voices. None of the individuals seem to have a grip on life. I read it with several teenage girls who though the girls were too "fast" and risky. Go figure!”

I chose to read first, this non-fiction book from the list and I am still obsessed with it! It reads like a soap opera and opened my eyes to recurrent, multi-generational poverty. Merl and my mom both finished it and recommend it, and Carly is enjoying it now.

It is eye opening, captivating and will change your perspective of the affects of poverty forever. ”
