Intriguing, then funny, then compelling, then absolutely terrifying.

Well, it's probably all made up fiction, but when I read this as a kid, I was hooked in.

Regardless of all the controversy and questions, there is something so haunting and memorable about this entire series. I have moved away from a lot of this type of literature, but this always sticks with me. One of the most profound aspects of the series for me is in 'Journey to Ixlan' when Castaneda must go backward and discuss things he has already discussed in the first two books, but as seen through the new eyes gained by his years of experience and training under Don Juan.

What can I say? If you have not already explored the Castaneda experience, do it now! It is an excellent journey through the magical world of mushrooms and peyote cactus.

Whether the events actually are based in fact or are a product, as some claim, of the author's imagination, there still can be found some excellent ideas in how to approach life.

One of the better written cons out there. The whole thing is a fabrication, launched to coincide with the new age penchant for venerating nonsense in a loincloth, while imbibing vast amounts of chemical amusement.

It's amazing to see people still frothing over it.

On Tuesday, July 22nd, I found myself at Latteland on the plaza with my friend Maggie and Ron Blair, the bass guitarist for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. We all talked for two hours and then went to The Mix for lunch. Anyhow, as alot of conversational territory was covered- goodness we talked about composting, sewing, food and cooking, spirituality......
well this book came up and it was highly recommended by Ron.

I started reading the book in public transport and people could definitely see my weird facial expression. Once home I've read the book for a long time non-stop. Next day(today) I'm finished. The book is amazingly fascinating, but the retardedness of Carlos amazes me... I would even go as far as say he was STUPID for trying to be LOGICAL while using hallucinogenic drugs. But a magical book nonetheless.
