I remember that I finished this one in the middle of the night, and then I just couldn't sleep. I had to write something down, it seemed very important and carying the potential of something deeply changing in my own thinking. In any way people might read this, I don't think it's possible to just leave it without feeling affected and somewhat changed by it. And then as a side note: Houellebecq combines close to everything that I like intellectually: philosophy, psychology, sociology, evolutionary biology and psychology, futuristic fantasies, sex, in-yer-face-attitude and polemic writing.”

Came highly recommended, but I'm finding the hyper-masculinity a little hard to swallow, as it were. I can get down with cynical offense, but the narrative has yet to grab me. Still, if it's supposed to be better than Oryx and Crake, I'm gonna give it a try.”

Although I'm not really that much into S/F(and this book seems to be just that), there are many cool quotes I have drawn from it. Or as some music critics would say, the album sucks but the singles are great. I love cynical authors, and Houellebecq is the king of cynics. ”

The idea behind the story is original: the 25th and 26th clone in a line of Daniel-clones are reading and commenting on the lifestory of the orginial Daniel. But (in my humble opinion) the description of the lives of these clones is not very credible. The book has a very depressing view on the future of mankind.
