Interesting historical text about Ireland, a neutral country, during WWII. It is clearly an academic text written for the classroom. The early chapters concentrate on internal politics and are very dry. The chapter on the imprisonment of allied pilots and German sailors and pilots was a good read. It seems the prisoners/internees were on an honor code and could pretty much come and go as they pleased, they simply could not leave the Country and return to active duty. Some took the time to go to College in Dublin. They frequented the local bars, golf courses and country clubs. The only thing they didn't do was fraternize with each other. The Allied prisoners and the German prisoners simply avoided each other when outside the camps. The remainder of the book is about Ireland's efforts to maintain its neutrality throughout the war.
