Frankie, i believe, represents most people in our society; the growing alienation in most of us, the strong feeling of wanting to connect with or to be a part of something, or even someone. I think these connections are already present in our lives, but for whatever reason difficult to fathom, at times, most of it actually, we still have this empty space within, and the funny thing is, it's a space we can't really know how to fill in. Sometimes we just really can't have enough of things, the human nature.

Not my favorite Carson McCullers book. I preferred "The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter." That story was much richer and more consciously interwoven, even though it looked simple on the surface. This one seemed to read like a thin, watered-down version of "To Kill A Mockingbird" (I'm not sure which was written first) or Toni Morrison's "The Bluest Eye."

Also, you can tell it didn't take my heart as it has taken me about six months to finish this book, and it's only 162 pages. Maybe someone will enjoy it when I turn it loose in the wild.
