(vampires). The way it is written, sends you into a world of beautiful mystery, and the lavish world of the rich.” see full review » see other reviews » |

Ok, so I've watched about three eps of Gossip Girl and the book, minus the vampire stuff, could easily be worked in the show. Maybe it's even the same high school.
There's Schuyler Van Alen, 15, living with her grandmother, Cordelia, in what used to be a grand mansion, but due the family's finances, is more rundown and shabby rather than elegant. Schuyler dresses like a bag lady according to her classmates, and goes to a posh private school. She befriends the new kid in school, Dylan and along with him and her best friend Oliver, they make up, without a doubt, the uncool clique in school.
Vampires, it turns out, are not afraid of garlic. They just hate the smell. And they do not shrivel up and perish when exposed to the almighty sun. Instead they are beautiful, athletic, can read minds some times, skilled and have an extraordinary metabolism. Vampires, or blue bloods, are the undead - they begin to show signs when they turn 15 and this is when the memories of all their past lives flood their thoughts.
What I really liked is the historical tidbits. I don't know much about early American history concerning the settlers. While the Mayflower is familiar, I had never heard of the lost colony of Roanoke.
I had minimum expectations for the book, and that's probably why I enjoyed it as much as I did. The fact that it finally rained where I live only excellently set the mood (I love it when it rains). I thought this book much more well written than the Twilight books (well, the first two since those were the only ones I read). ”
“Introductory book, it's okay. If I had not bought the second book I would not have delved past this one. The book does not read like Twilight. Twilight brought you in, and this one does not do that for the series. However, having finished the series I can appreciate the book. I love the series. Can't wait for the final book!!”
