- Added a term: Velox: Velox is another name for vampire speed. Humans have called it invisibility, but the truth is that vampires move so fast that they cannot be detected, even by alarms or cameras. Schuyler Van Alen can run to the Metropolitan Museum of Art from her apartment and steal a bracelet in less than a second, without anyone suspecting a thing.

- Added a term: Animadverto: Translated from the Old Language to mean "Intelligent Sight," Animadverto is the reason for vampires' super intelligence. Contrary to popular belief, vampires don't have infinite knowledge, only photographic memories. These memories are then perfectly preserved through their immortal blood, which manifests and brings backs a vampire's memories in their teenage years, giving the impression that they know all. A vampire can finish an encyclopedia in five minutes, then recite any page verbatim, just by closing their eyes and imagining the pages.

- Added a term: Glom: Glom is the art of controlling minds. Those who are underage are advised by The Committee against practicing it, since it tends to weaken those who attempt it. There are four factors of the mental power, one of them being telepathy. Most vampires can read human minds, but only the most powerful vampires can perform mind-control on weaker beings. With practice, one can also learn to block others out, in addition to letting them in.

- Added a term: Illuminata: Besides their blue veins, vampires have a special gift that makes them recognizable to each other. Vampires glow in the dark, like they have an inner light that accentuates their features. With the lights out, vampires appear as though they are made of white, translucent marble. This characteristic is known as Illuminata. Red Bloods are blind to the Illuminata's effects, but for vampires it's an easy way to know if there is another vampire in the room.

- Added a term: Mutatio: Mutatio is a form of metamorphosis. Every Blue Blood has the ability to change into smoke, air, or fog. Most vampires can also change into fire and water, too, with practice. Many, if not all, can also take the forms of different animals or people. In the case of animals, the physical form there is known as a "mutatus." While Blue Bloods can change into a wide variety of wild creatures, it is common for vampires to choose one "mutatus" and stick with it. Generally, a vampire's "mutatus" is a representation of their magical abilities as well as their personality.

- Added a term: Consummo Alienari: Consummo is technically a factor of Glom, but its effects are so severe, that it is generally regarded as a separate skill among the Blue Bloods. Consummo Alienari means instant death for any human unlucky enough to subjected to it, but for vampires, it means paralysis. By entering a victim's mind, a vampire can lock their body and force them to exactly as they please. A victim of Consummo Alienari has no control of themselves, unless they can find the mental link with their attacker and reverse Consummo onto them.

- Added a term: Blue Blood: Vampires. Fallen Angels. Blue Bloods have existed since the beginning of time; they are vampires, angels expelled from heaven, cursed by God to live out their immortal lives on Earth because of their alliance with Lucifer. Once they came to our world, the Blue Bloods discovered that they were hungry. Their God had punished them with an eternal thirst that could only be satiated by the taste of blood; they had been turned from beautiful creatures into monsters.

- Added a term: Venators: Venators, also known as "Truth Seekers," are the Committee's secret police. At times, they go undercover on assignment to reveal truths about the activities of other vampires Their job is to find traitors to the Blue Blood cause and to make sure that the Blue Blood secret stays secret.

- Added a term: Regis: The Regis acts as the leader over a coven of Blue Bloods. Their say is final; they control the Committee. However, if a coven feels that their current Regis is unfit, they may dismiss him with a "White Vote," a process that elects a replacement.

- Added a term: Familiar: Familiars are sources of food for vampires and, once taken, cannot be claimed by any other Blue Blood. By taking a familiar, a Blue Blood creates a bond between them and that person, linking the two for eternity. From the first bite on, a familiar will be inexplicably consumed by thoughts of the Blue Blood that claimed them.

- Added a term: Caerimonia Osculor: Caerimonia Osculor, also known as the “Sacred Kiss,” is the term used by vampires to mean blood-sucking. Through Caerimonia Osculor, vampires replenish their bodies with crimson blood from a familiar.

- Added a term: Silver Bloods: Also known as "croatan", meaning abomination, these are the villainous vampires of the novels. They drink and drain the life force from other Blue Bloods.

- Added a term: Conduit: Conduits are human families that are traditionally assigned to protect vampires lines, especially when the vampires are young and just growing into their powers. Unfortunately, in their hubris, many Blue Blood families assume that they are too strong to need protecting. Only certain Blue Blood families still keep Conduits, who are assigned to vampires at birth. Those who aren't connected to a family either fade out of the Conduit world or work in the Repository of History, below The Bank and Block 122, to keep the Blue Bloods' history safe from prying eyes. Conduits can also work as doctors, lawyers, accountants, or financiers -- either for a specific family, or for the Blue Blood world as a whole.Conduits are guardians and protectors, but they are also looked down upon by most Blue Bloods as nothing more than servants. However, not all Conduits are mistreated. In the novels, Schuyler Van Alen and her Conduit Oliver are best friends. She did not know he was her Conduit until she was 15, when she discovered she was a vampire. She sees the injustice in the way Conduits are treated. It is impossible to become a Conduit, it is something designated at birth. Either you are born into a family of Conduits or you are not -- the ancient practice is passed down through tradition and taught from an early age.
