This is a story about a girl who doesn't even know that she is a witch and when she meets a witch who uses fires she is attracted to him. But the catch is that he is there to protect her...” see full review » see other reviews » |
“Great paranormal romance with witches and demons and it was great!”

But when sexy Jack McAllister enters her life, she discovers that what you want isn't always what you need.
Jack is a powerful witch with the ability to command fire and is anything but normal. As the head of a security detail for The Coven, a national organization that governs national witches, Jack has been assigned to watch over Mira. She is a natural born witch with the ability to call the air. And although she is unaware of her talent, a group of renegade witches has discovered her existence and are determined to steal her power--and her life.”
“Quick paced and exciting. The ending was sweet. One of my favorites. ”

The characters are well-written, likeable (except for the bad guys of course!) and multi-faceted and just flawed enough to keep you wondering what they might do next.
The sex scenes that Bast writes are extremely explicit, lengthy and detailed. While sex in a story like this is an expected and required feature, and I enjoy them as much as the next person, at some points during the book I almost felt like the story was written to accommodate and fit with the sex scenes instead of the sex complementing the plot, which for me is how it should work.
But that's a small complaint really. I enjoyed the story and ending was more than satisfying, with sufficient threads left hanging for the next book in the series, but with a proper, thorough resolution for Mira's story. It's one of my pet peeves when an author leaves you hanging by your fingernails on the edge of a cliff with the story, when you know you'll have to wait for the next book, sometimes months! I always give extra credit to authors who give you an actual ending to their books!
I also like the "element magic" aspect of the book, and am hoping that Bast goes more into this, and the "world" she sees her characters inhabiting in future books. Those of us who like the paranormal world usually want to understand the world(s) at least as much as we want to fall in love with the characters who live in them.
All in all, I enjoyed Witch Fire. It's a fast, easy, entertaining read, and I am looking forward to Witch Blood the next installment of this series.”
“well written romantic paranormal drama.”
