The theme of this book has come back to me again and again throughout my life. I came to know Saul Bellow and Susan Sontag and Chaim Potok as a research librian working on the first ever Jewish American Bibliography ever compiled. The Asher Lev's were easy reads. Jewish American fiction in general has become a favorite of mine. But the Asher Lev books are of particular interest to me, because the idea that pain and suffering humble and make us human is true for me again and again. The idea...
