Studs Terkel interviewed a variety of people from all walks (works) of life. His book is an example that everyone is interesting and has a story to tell.

Excellent collection of interviews--mechanics, housewives, teachers and more. Funny, insightful and at times heartbreaking. Ultimately you find out that times change, work (and the ups and downs of it) stays the same.

I highly recommend all of Studs Terkels work. For many many years he was an announcer and interviewer out of Chicago radio. Since the '60s he completed several oral history projects in which he interviewed a wide variety of people--often the very ones who would never get interviewed--in relation to a specific topic. This one concerns workers and their thoughts about their jobs and lives.

A sociological classic. The subtitle tells it all: it's a series of essays written in the first person (based on individual interviews) with people from various different careers.
