Weird.

This is the first book by Stephen Fry that I've read. I was just not expecting this sort of tortured writing to come from the genius that played Jeeves....

Very, very funny -- Mr. Fry really has a way with words. The plot centers around a teenage boy who may or may not have a miraculous gift for healing, and the narrator is his curmudgeonly, washed-up poet of a godfather. I listened to an audio version, read by the author, and highly recommend it.

I read The Hippopoutamous right after The Liar and was sorely disappointed. It’s still a good (strage) book; Stephen Fry is an amazingly funny story teller. I was just expecting more.

The Hippopotamus is a book with what transpires to be quite a sickening plot, however it is written so well, and narrated by such a loveably horrid character who you cant help but enjoy reading, because of the fact that your picture of him is that of Stephen. I read this as a fan of Stephen Fry's wit and intelligence, and afterwards that was purely exacerbated.

It took me a while, but I did get in to this one eventually. I can't help but hear it in his voice, which helped a lot actually. It was odd, but good.
