Excellent adventure story, historical timeline about Russian Revolution, background to importance of Azerbajian (oil bubbles out of ground), mystery, self-identity of Lev Nussbaum (Jew/Moslem).

Didn’t Like It

Once I began reading this book, my motivation for continuing was mostly just to get through it. There were parts of the book that I read quickly and with great interest, but many other parts that felt unnecessary and long.

On one hand, Reiss does do a good job of convincing the reader that Noussimbaum/Essad Bey/Said's works were themselves fascinating and gripping and that understanding the life of this author is important to giving context to those works. On the other hand, having...
