This is a completely true story, and the book is compiled of real interviews of those who experienced it. In the early 1990s a team of wreck divers happened across an uncharted wreck off the coast of New Jersey. They were shocked and amazed that they had in fact discovered a sunk German U-Boat from WWII! Now wreck diving is a pretty dangerous sport to begin with, but this wreck site was beyond difficult. It was at a staggering 240 feet, well beyond the reach of all but the very best divers. During the quest to identify which U-Boat it was, three divers lost their lives. But they continued to dive the wreck and through hard work, research, and great strength of character, they discovered the true story of this lost U-Boat, and the story of what likely happend that caused it to rest at the bottom of the Atlantic.
This was a great book. It may have been nonfiction,, but it was not the least bit dry. It was compelling and engaging, and I was rooting for the divers the whole time. Plus there are pictures of some things they describe in the text-an added bonus.

Its hard to describe how intense and engaging this true-life account is. Maybe I liked it so much because of it's setting--underwater--the creepiest of all settings.

For a technically 'non-fiction' book, Shadow Divers pleasantly surprised me, in the sense that it almost reads like a fiction story. It tells the true tale of a group of deep-sea wreck divers who miraculously discover a German World War 2 U-boat submarine, sunken not far off the coast of New Jersey. Through unexpected dangers and challenges, the determined crew eventually identify the mysterious sub and, with other surprise findings, help solve the who's, what's, and why's of this World War 2 mystery.
Overall, it was more intriguing than I thought it would be. Not exactly a 'page-turner' as some good fiction stories tend to be, but as I said earlier, for a non-fiction book, it was an educational and thought-provoking story.

A fascinating look at the work of deep water wreck diving, combined with a WWII submarine mystery.
