An alarming account about climate change. This is no ordinary book about climate change, it treats the subject throughly, deeply and rather artistically. I attended a talk by Tim Flannery in London before reading this book, and I think he is the real deal, worried about a real problem....

Still reading this; it's a bit on the technical side, so easy to pick up and put down.

A must read for anybody interested in the subject.

This book had a ton of fantastic information, though it's a few years old, so it might be a bit outdated.

I am relatively new to literature regarding the environment and matters of sustainability, so only have a limited perspective on the topic, but I have to say this book is the most influential piece of work I have ever read. Tim Flannery does an amazing job of educating the reader (which includes non-scientific folk like myself) on the current state of the environment, how it managed to get to the state in which it's in and where it's heading.

If I was asked which book, out of everything I have ever read, would I recommend everyone read it would be "The Weather Makers". I know how cliche that sounds but if everyone did read this book and used the knowledge acquired in their everyday life then the world would be a far better place for us all.

If you're searching for a book to educate you on climate change, from a scientific, political and environmental standpoint then I would highly recommend this book.

Tim Flannery certainly earned himself the Australian of the year award for his work and I thank him for his dedication to educating people on what is clearly a global issue that we should all be taking very, very seriously.

This is a great book for anyone wanting to educate themselves on global warming. It had my rapt attention from the start. Nearly all of it is reasonable, scientific thinking. The chapter that honed in on aircraft contrails (you know, the white streaks you see across the sky) seemed less grounded in solid evidence, so I took that one with less confidence (it was certainly interesting--it just seemed like more research is needed before making conclusions), but the rest of the book was full of good stuff. I highly recommend it.

We have ten years to solve the global climate crisis (according to James Hansen, head of NASA). Read this to understand the challenges and consequences of our disastrous environmental policies. "The next 10 years will be the most important in the next 10,000 years." - Dr. Sylvia Earle (Ocean Explorer, National Geographic Society), on what we do, or fail to do, regarding climate change. From House Global Warming Committee hearing, C-SPAN, Tues. 4-29-08. (www.globalwarming.house.gov)

The Weather Makers is very well written and a quick read. Flannery covers the current issues surrounding global warming with enough depth to help you broaden your understanding of the subject with out bogging you down in statistics and analysis. The section of his book discussing the pros and cons of the various alternative energy sources being flouted is particularly enlightening.
