“The great finale of the New Jedi Order saga, I read it eight years ago, not what I expected, but after four years it was a satisfying conclusion.”Pablo A Diaz wrote this review Tuesday, January 22, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No

“For me James Luceno books have always been a roll of the dice. I find some of his books really good, like Dark Lord and the Agents of Chaos books and some not so good like Labyrinth of Evil and Millennium Falcon, both good ideas but were far from thrilling. So when I got The Unifying Force I was a little worried that the conclusion of the New Jedi Order series wasn't going to get the explosive ending that it deserved. Boy was I wrong to doubt James on this one. In my opinion the book goes far beyond the sometimes cookie cutter approach to Star Wars books that seem to be common place these days. Unifying Force is probably the most intricate story and best written book I have read recently and not just the best Star Wars book but the best book in general.
Luceno spends most of the first 100 pages reliving and reminding the reader of events of past installments. He does this by adding key details laid out in previous books and adds them into the story he is telling. This way of writing tends to keep readers who are very familiar with past events interested by adding new story arcs and also reminds other readers, who may have forgotten past events, of details that are key to the story later on.
As the book continues on Luceno covers all the main players and gives compelling storylines to the support characters as well. Almost every character from previous books are mentioned within and most get important roles in the story. Some may find that the book is a little too much Vong but Luceno balances the book well so that the reader never tires of too much of one thing. This balance makes for a quick and easy read that had me turning pages at a pretty good clip.
Over all the story is very well portrayed and very well written. The ending was superb and Luceno's imagination made for a compelling read. There were a few parts that seemed rushed at times and Luke's superior connection to the Force seemed to out way Jacen's affinity to the Vongsense and what he learned from the Embrace of Pain. I would have thought that Luceno would have focused more on Jacen's abilities, given what he learned in Traitor and other installments, but all-in-all I was quite pleased with how the book ended.
A very long series that had, at times, offered too much while offering too little, but in the end the series was well worth reading and came to a fitting conclusion.”
“Despite how somewhat disappointing the books immediately prior to this one were, this wasn't that bad a way to tie up the whole story. Sure, bits seemed a bit rushed or squished together, but on the whole Luceno managed the storylines well, managed to address many of the key questions then swept everything up under the rug at the end to make sure new stories could be told.”rOckY wrote this review Sunday, December 11, 2011. “A great ending to a long and enjoyable series of books. I never lost interest or got burnt out. The story just flows from one book to the next, and the ending did not disappoint. ”Billy Landon wrote this review Tuesday, April 12, 2011. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
