Ketchum's first novel lived up to my expectations, gory, horrific and deeply unsettling, perfect for these long winter nights!

I hated this book! Not scary just gross. I didn't care about the characters at all! Waste of time!

Not really my cup of tea..picked it up after my husband read it. Little too gory for me. Fast read and kept my interest, however.

A gruesome story but nothing new. It was interesting to read about this book being published because of how new and disgusting it was at the time. I will definetly be picking up this author again when I'm in the mood for something disturbing.

This was an extremely violent and disturbing book. I can only imagine the chaos it caused upon original publication in 1981.

Off Season is one gory, cannibalistic trip!

Ketchum kept topping himself in the progression of this book. My "Ew!", "Gross!", went to, "Oh my gosh, can that even be done?", and proceeded to, "Oh lawd, I think I'm going to be sick!"

I suppose one thing that really hit home for me with this book is I couldn't look at it as merely fiction. There are cannibals in the world, however, probably not as prevalent as in past times. The story of Sawney Beane and his cannibalistic clan kept flitting through my mind as I was reading this story.

Ketchum makes sure we get to know the victims in this story. As I got to know them, I was making a survivor list in my head. I couldn't have been more wrong. People whom I thought would live died, and those I thought would die ended up living.

Off Season proved to be a hell of a ride.

If this isn't already a movie, it needs to be!!! If you can stomach it, the gore was phenomenal!

Very gory - think Hostel - but definitely a fun read if you're a horror fan. It's also a relatively quick, short read if you're looking for something that's good for times when you aren't big on focus.

Sometimes a good horror novel is necessary. You just gotta sit back and let the mayhem flow. Jack Ketchum gives you a pretty good sense of who these people are (hopes, dreams, ambitions, strife) and then he rips them to shreds. You could probably finish the book in about three hours, but you'll think about it for a lot longer after that.

I've seen Jack Ketchum in pictures, the one in this book makes him look like a gonzo journalist, he's definitely a gonzo novelist when the blood gets flowing.

I think this is the most violent book ive ever read. It was great. First 70 or so pages boring, If i remember correctly, then the rest is like a freight train.
