“Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats is cute, entertaining, but is not meant to be great poetry. =P
T. S. Eliot wrote these poems for his godchildren, and while children of all ages may enjoy reading about how “a cat must have THREE DIFFERENT NAMES” these poems do not reflect his work. Ironically, due to the play version of “Cats” the short whimsical poems in this volume are among his best-known works today.
As a cat lover, not even the trite rhymes or short phases in this volume such as “A CAT IS NOT A DOG” can really turn me off that badly. =P”
