I've read this book at least three times, probably more like four or five. I just love this set of characters in Pratchett's Discworld. His Grace, His Excenllency, Sir Samuel Vimes, Duke of Ankh-Morpork is sent on a diplomatic mission by Lord Vetinari to be present at the coronation of the Dwarf's Low King. Of course, wherever a copper goes, crime follows, and Vimes can't help but also be Commander Vimes of the city watch.
This is a quick paced mystery set in the vast reaches of Uberwald where vampires, werewolves, and dwarfs rule by the Lore, and law plays little to no part in politics.
I love this series. In this book the relationship between Carrot (possible heir to the thrown) and Angua (resident Watch werewolf) is given a new dimension, and Vimes and Sybil are discovering the joys of marriage and family.
I love these characters like they were my own family. These are the books I turn to when I'm having a bad day, or I need to familiarity of people who I love surrounding me. It's silly, very funny, quick, and a great mystery. If you like fantasy and great British humor, check them out.”
“Another Pratchett favorite. Vimes goes mad dealing with Dwarves and Angua's family. Seems to have more fun fighting the wolves than dealing with diplomats though. Love the king/queen surprise. ”

However, I have to allow for the fact that I've become fairly tired with the story because I was just in a play adaptation of it. It was funny, certainly, but not as laugh-out-loud as many of these books are. Decent, but not one of the best of Pratchett's work.”
