Timeless story of first love, and coming of age. It is a book i read for young adult literature, and I still remember some of the discussions we had from this book. It sparks your thoughts and feelings, reflecting back on the teenage years

Yukio Mishima's _The Sound of Waves_, tells the story of Shinji and Hatsue, two youths who fall innocently--and naturally--in love in a small, secluded island town. This beautiful little love story examines the moral code of the entire town, a place where right does win out in the end, where respect reaps great rewards. It's a must-read for any fan of Mishima's works, because it provides a reader with deeper insights into the troubled/troubling mind of this great literary master. It's also a perfect book for fans of romance: the end of the book will put you in a happy, delighted mood...not unlike sweet young love!

This is a story of 2 young lovers, set in an island in Japan. Life in this fishing village is simple where everyone still embraces the forces of nature such as storm. Yet, this story shows no matter how simple life is, emotions and feelings are still complicated. For Shinji and Hatsue, they have to endure trials and be within the bounds of the moral code in the village before they can be together. Beautiful story.

Lovely and lyrical, very Japanese in form and feeling. Ultimately, just a romance, but so pretty it is worth reading.

A simple story, beautifully told. Mishima's world is so full and alive it takes no great stretch of the imagination to go there.

To me, the only bearable book (out of others interesting ones) by Mishima. The title is perfect
