The first book in Mishima's final masterpiece, "The Sea of Fertility" tetralogy. Coming first in the series, it is probably the only one of the books that could function as a complete entity unto itself (though of course, after reading it, you'll be drawn to the remaining three). It is the most accessible of the four as well.
