Characters/People edit see section history

  • Holly Janquell: The main character. Holly is an inventive, clever 12 year old girl. It seems Holly is always an outcast looking in. Holly lives in and out of foster homes after her mother dies of a drug overdose at the raw age of 10. She decides that she's had enough of the abuse from her foster family and runs away. She considers herself to be a gypsy. She also has a love of dogs, books, and writing.
  • Mr. and Mrs. Bender: A foster family that takes Holly in. Mrs. Bender is a vapid, cruel woman that steals money from her husband and blames it on Holly. She locks Holly in the laundry room and doesnt feed her or give access to a bathroom half the time. Mr. Bender is just as bad. He always gives her sly, perverted looks. Or sometimes he'll try to give her a neck massage to "help her unwind". Both spouses are prone to violence.
  • Ms. Leone: Hollys english teacher. Holly likes to think Ms. Leone doesn't care about her or want whats best for her, but Holly still addresses every diary entry to Ms. Leone.
  • Louise K. Palmer: A senile old homeless woman. Holly befriends her in an attempt to get into a homeless shelter. Holly cleans her up and combs out her long tangled hair. Louise seems to have lost her daughters. Holly writes a beautiful poem about her, and gives her the name Lady Louise.
