Not only was the plot of this book thoroughly enjoyable, but so was the writing style. Plus, I always like reading stories with female characters who go a little bit against the grain, and Julia Grey is definitely that kind of heroine.

If you're looking for the most exciting mystery of all time, you might be disappointed by Silent in the Grave, because at times the mystery takes a back seat to the development of Julia Grey and her relationships with the other characters. Still the...

    Once I got started on this one, it was hard to put down!! A good whodunit with a bit of a surprise at the end; quirky and likeable characters; and a touch of humour too.

    Raybourn created quite a vivid picture of ninteenth century London and the propriety of social life. It has plenty of intrigue and the faintest dusting of romance. Kept me on my toes and then knocked me off them with the ending. Utterly satisfying!
