I so wanted to like this book. The premise sounded appealing and fun, but I found myself disappointed almost immediately.
The writing is far from great. The author manages this annoying 1st/3rd person POV. The book is written in third person, but comes across as a first person perspective...

Shop till you Drop is the first in the Dead-End Job Mystery series. Helen Hawthrone is hiding from an ex-husband and is trying to stay under the radar. She has taken a dead end job at a fashionable clothing boutique in Fort Lauderdale. Everything is working out for her until she over hears her manager plot a murder, cook the store books, and see her selling drugs. When the manager turns up missing and later dead, Helen must find out who the murderer is and stay under the radar.

I found this book to be a really great start to a new series. Helen is a likable character and her neighbors a little off the beaten path and it makes a great story. I can't wait to read the next book in the series!

A light read with mostly interesting characters. As with most books of this genre, the heroine acts stupidly now and then, but it was a fairly entertaining read.

I read the whole series in hopes that it would improve...but it didn't. The main character is supposed to be this worldly, high powered suit that leaves everything behind because of a sleazy ex. I found her to be a complete nitwit, no woman once at the top of the food chain would think or react like Helen. So disappointing, probably the worst series I have ever read.

This was a funny book. It is the beginning of this series and I plan to read more!

I so wanted to like this book. The premise sounded appealing and fun, but I found myself disappointed almost immediately.
The writing is far from great. The author manages this annoying 1st/3rd person POV. The book is written in third person, but comes across as a first person perspective where the main character refers to themselves by their first name. Not fun.

Plus the story just didn't have that fun snap that you expect from a cozy chic lit/mystery. I never cared about any of the characters and ended up not even finishing the book (something I never do).

Running from her ex-husband & the St. Louis legal system, Helen Hawthorne flees to Southern Florida. Unfortunately, the only place where she can find a job is at Juliana's, a snooty and exclusive clothing boutique with sizes too small for her and prices way too high. Despite the snobbery, Helen actually begins to enjoy working at Juliana's until she finds out her boss is engaging in a multitude of illegal activities, ranging from skimming the books to drug dealing. It gets even worse when murder is added to the equation. Now Helen is forced to find the killer before the secrets of her past are revealed.

This is a great start to the Dead-end Job series. The heroine, Helen, is a funny & intelligent woman stuck in a bad situation. If you've ever suffered the indignity of working in a retail job, you can probably relate to poor Helen's plight. In addition, there's a bevy of zany characters throughout the story to keep it moving, from the parrot-toting Peggy to purple-clad Margery. I'm looking forward to good things in the rest of the Dead-end Job series.

This is a great cozy series to get into. I was also introduced this cozy series from the same egroup a few years ago for a group read. A bit comedic but features a dead end job per book.

A chick-lit mystery about a divorcee hiding from the law and her ex-husband. She takes dead-end jobs and is currently working at a select women's apparel shop that caters to the rich.

Dead end job mystery. Helen works at a high end dress shop rife with blackmail and murder. Quirky fun. 062207
