“A bargain book and an impulse. It's an early English romantic fluff - you know, when women were basically nonentities under severe behavioral strictures, so the independence and impertinence of Miss Amanda Cheever (at 10 and still at 20) are remarkable. It was rather fun to read.”

At the age of ten, Miranda Cheever showed no signs of Great Beauty. And even at ten, Miranda learned to accept the expectations society held for her—until the afternoon when Nigel Bevelstoke, the handsome and dashing Viscount Turner, solemnly kissed her hand and promised her that one day she would grow into herself, that one day she would be as beautiful as she already was smart. And even at ten, Miranda knew she would love him forever. But the years that followed were as cruel to Turner as they were kind to Miranda. She is as intriguing as the viscount boldly predicted on that memorable day—while he is a lonely, bitter man, crushed by a devastating loss. But Miranda has never forgotten the truth she set down on paper all those years earlier—and she will not allow the love that is her destiny to slip lightly through her fingers . . .

“La Lola seems to be on a bit of a Julia Quinn roll. Her latest offering, “The Secret Diaries of Miss Miranda Cheever” is a light-hearted romp. La Lola hasn’t been particularly enamoured of her later efforts in The Saga Which Is The Bridgertons AND Their Second Epilogues, although her earlier efforts were a lot of fun. But it’s still a return to form for Ms Quinn.
Whilst I think that a lot of authors try to emulate her style, their efforts lack a certain je ne sais quoi (ie French for “I’m too lazy to think of an expression.”) These books sadly fall a trifle limp, like the last disastrous date that La Lola was on. (”Is that its normal state, or is it really, really cold in here?”)

Sassy!”
“I absolutely love Julia Quinn - just the right amount of everything. This one was a bit off the typical recency romance and probably why I liked it so much. It was a very fast read (wish all books were made in this nice larger type - even if they are longer).”

I really expected something more exciting. Let me tell you the story. Miranda the lead character is in love with Turner her best friend’s brother. A cliché story, as we all knows how the story ends.
And I'm even more shocked that this book won awards. It is a good read to all who enjoy a good romantic boy meets girl falls in love ……………..
But I expected more from Julia Quinn.
