“Historical Romance
Another Bridgerton sibling, "bites the dust!" I found myself experiencing mixed emotions with this book. I laughed alot. Ms Quinn now has me as a devoted fan.”
“one of my fav. books in this family for many reasons
1. i can relate to penelope a lot and i was so sad when i first read about her in Daphne's story (cant remember the name of the book) when she was obviously not the most favored amoung her sisters.
2. colin is so fun to read, in other books he comes as the playful carefree type of the family but this books really showed a different side to him, a more deeper side
3. when colin returned i was so sure that he would have been attracked to penelope because she changed so much in appearance (cliche in most romance books) but i really liked that Quinn did not use that in this book. the couple continued to be friends and their relationship progressed in a more realistic manner than most books.
recommend this book for anyone who love the family because it is one of the best in the series ”
“After three books on the Bridgerton family I'm starting to get used to the idiosyncrasies on Quinn's work. I'm also starting to feel that the books are a little formulaic (although that's pretty much a given with any romance)
Question is, are the books worth persevering with?
I would recommend this installment, and will try the next but think that I may take a looong break after that. Perhaps it is the time period in which these books are set, but the insta-marriages are grating a bit now. I'm also starting to be annoyed by all the errors in Quinns writing (modern language etc...)
As far as Colin and Penelope, well it may have been anticipation that led to dissapointment. Colin has always been my favourite Bridgerton and I had a softspot for Penelope too. To be honest I was hoping for more fireworks, but due to the slow build up it was more comfortable than anything. It was however a very sweet story and a nice way to while away a few hours.”
“What I Think:
Among the Bridgerton males, Colin is my favorite because he's NICE and it seems like he is very easy to talk to and has a sunny disposition, a departure from the typical hero of a romance novel. Sure, he's hot and a dazzling debonair but he seems so humble and even though he and his brothers are all devoted to their family, he's unassuming attitude makes him stand out!
Penelope Featherington at 28 years old, is considered a spinster. Her mother has given up on her about catching any attention from the ton and expects her to remain an old maid. But what her mother doesn't know, and what the world doesn't know is that Penelope is more than just a wallflower because she has secrets of her own too.
This is NOT a typical romance novel, as expected from Julia Quinn, but what makes the love story of Colin and Penelope really unforgettable is the fact that they started as really good friends. Sure, they've known each other since they were teenagers and Penelope has been in love with him for 12 LONG years but Colin travels a lot and it seems like he doesn't want to settle down until one day, he returned to England and he saw Penelope in a new light! First as a friend, then a confidante, until one day, he realized that Penelope is SO MUCH MORE!
Another entertaining thing from this novel are the characters' obsession to uncover the true identity of Lady Whistledown who is a society columnist unashamed to name society's who's who and their rather compromising ways and unforgivable fashion! What started as a challenge from the old Lady Danbury (I like her too! Many avoids her but she's definitely a force to be reckoned with!) became a manhunt of the mysterious but omnipresent columnist.
It's also nice to have an update on Daphne's life with Simon (Duchess and Duke of Hastings, respectively). The Duke and I is also a favorite of mine and it's nice to know that they are still blissfully married and have four wonderful kids. I really find it touching that Colin went to his sister's house to ask her about love and marriage because it just proves that they are really close and have a special bond as brother and sister.
I also like the fact that Colin is more than just a rich, handsome bachelor. He aspires to be someone. To have a legacy and be remembered for something that he accomplished on his own and not because of his good looks and family's name. He is afraid at first to share to the world what he can do but Penelope was the one who encouraged him to take a risk and do it.
Overall, this romance novel stood above the rest. A charming, nice hero and an ordinary looking but superbly talented heroine makes this a great read!”

First, from reading The Viscount Who Loved Me, I fell in love with Colin's character. But surprisingly, when I read RBM, I fell in love with Penelope's character. She was a very intriguing secondary character from the other Bridgerton novels and she's so like me than I could ever hope for. ♥ I could really see myself in Penelope.
Second, whenever I hear that the premise of the story is one where the heroine is madly in love with the hero for many many years I try to stay away from those kind of novels. But the love story between Penelope and Colin was drawn out beautifully and you could really feel, after finishing the story, that their story was one of true love.
Third, I love how JQ executed this story from start till end. It was really a journey for both Colin and Penelope to find true love and in the process, they found secrets about each other, surprising revelations about their personalities that served to intensify their love even more.
And lastly, who could forget Lady Whistledown? =)
Romancing Mr.Bridgerton is light-hearted and witty. You'll truly enjoy this book. This is a definite DIK for me! ”
